Synod Implementation Committee

Preface

In January 2005 the church of the Archdiocese gathered in Synod to hear reports from the Commissions, Councils and Secretariats. Out of the reports and the ensuing discussions the Church mandated itself to meet again in Synod in 2008, when the reports from the parishes and the vicariates will be presented and discussed.

Representatives

Synod representatives of the Parish are:

Phase 1 March 2006 to May 2007

Specific Objectives of Pastoral Responsibilities ( Synod 2005) All parishes are to implement pastoral responsibilities (Resolutions from Synod 2005) that speak to:

Catechesis

Resolution 14: “ That the Archdiocese establishes ongoing total catechetical formation in all parishes”.

Catholic Education

Resolution 26: “ That preference must be given to Catholic students for admission.

That a competent Board be selected within each parish to liase with school authorities to ensure that Catholic Life continues in the schools.

Resolution 28: That the Catholic Faith is effectively taught in all Catholic Schools under the auspices of the Catechetical Office and that provision be made by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) for the Catholic faith to be effectively taught to all Catholics attending Government Schools.

Family Life

Resolution 12: “ That certified Counsellors who must adhere to the tenets of catholic morality be appointed to deal with issues of human sexuality, with an emphasis on chastity and the culture of life.

Phase 2:June 2007 to March 2008

Overall goal of Synod 2008

Create and sustain a unified Archdiocese that is committed to ongoing dialogue and evaluation on every aspect of its life and pastoral ministry.
